All India Radio to construct radio station in Suryapet in Nalgonda District of Telengana

NEW DELHI: A station of All India Radio (AIR) is coming up shortly at Suryapet in Nalgonda district of Telengana.

Meanwhile, as an interim measure, 1 kW FM transmitter was installed and commissioned on 7 December 2011 by sharing BSNL infrastructure which is presently relaying Telugu programmes.

The site has been acquired and a compound wall has been constructed for the new station. An estimate has been sanctioned for the construction of transmitter building and tenders have been called for awarding the civil work.

Prasar Bharati sources also said a 10 kW FM transmitter has been procured for Suryapet.

For erection of 100 Meter tower, specifications have been framed and Expressions of Interest (EOI) has been issued.

The scheme for establishment of AIR Station at Suryapet in Nalgonda District was approved in 2007. The main reason for delay in scheme was due to delay in allocation of a suitable site for the Project.

A representation had been received from Telengana Education Minister G Jagadish Reddy for early completion of the AIR Station at Suryapet.
