Pitbull, Calvin Harris, Avicii, Maroon 5 and others add over 600 million followers to Shazam

MUMBAI: Fans of Pitbull, Calvin Harris, Meghan Trainor, Avicii, Jason Derulo, Coldplay and many other artists, can now see which songs their favourite artists discover through music identifying app- Shazam. Soon after the launch, together, the artists managed to add more than 600 million Shazam followers.

According to a statement by the company, Pitbull added 44.7 million followers, followed by Calvin Harris with 42.0 million followers, Avicii with 41.4 million followers, Maroon 5 with 30.2 million followers, Macklemore and Ryan Lewis - 29.4 million followers, Jason Derulo - 28.7 million followers, OneRepublic - 27.7 million followers, Wiz Khalifa - 27.1 million followers, Imagine Dragons - 25.3 million followers Coldplay - 22.9 million followers, Usher - 20.9 million followers, Robin Thicke - 20.1 million followers, Enrique Iglesias – 20 million followers, Clean Bandit - 18.6 million followers, One Direction - 17.6 million followers, Linkin Park - 14.0 million followers, Alicia Keys - 13.6 million followers, Meghan Trainor - 13.5 million followers, Tove Lo - 12.4 million followers, Alesso - 11.8 million followers and Shakira - 11.7 million followers among others. "Shazam is one of my favourite ways to discover music. I am excited for the next step in its evolution, and happy that Fort Minor and Linkin Park can play a role," said Mike Shinoda of Linkin Park.

The recent update includes features like a personal music home which will update artist followers latest music discovered by artist. It will also offer options like ‘Like’, ‘Follow’/‘Unfollow’. Every artist will have a page of their own and Shazam will also reveal the number of times a track has been “shazamed”.

Shazam CEO Rich Riley said, “Our users Shazam over 20 million times each day to discover the music playing around them. Now, those Shazams transform into an ongoing relationship with artists, giving users a truly unique place to get great music content.”

The application stated that with launch of Apple Music, users can listen to songs on new Apple music through a button.
