Press Club Mumbai to honour Kuldip Nayar and N Ram

MUMBAI: Veteran journalists Kuldip Nayar and N Ram will receive the Press Club’s (Mumbai) RedInk Lifetime Achievement Awards for 2013.

Governor of Maharashtra Governor K Sankaranarayanan will give the awards to the two media stalwarts and 20 other journalists across different categories on 25 May at the NCPA’s Tata Theatre.

The Lifetime Achievement Awards were selected by the managing committee of the Press Club based on a survey of leading and senior journalists from all over the country, organizers said.

MUMBAI: A virtuoso display of guitar playing by 14-year-old girl Tina S of a classic rock solo has gone viral on YouTube. Tina’s incredible display of skills and dexterity while playing guitar hero Eddie Van Halen’s instrumental ‘Eruption’ has attracted more than 1.7 million hits.

Eddie Van Halen (of band Van Halen) is regarded as one of the greatest guitarists of all time. His 1.43 minute solo Eruption on the band’s 1978 self-titled debut album is second on Guitar World's list of the 50 best guitar solos.

Nick Carter writes his autobiography

MUMBAI: Backstreet Boys singer Nick Carter will pen his musical journey down in an autobiography titled, 'Facing the Music and Living to Talk About It'. This will not just include his professional life but his various personal struggles including the death of his sister Leslie from a suspected overdose last year.

The tome will be published by Bird Street Books on 24 September.

Red FM hikes ad rates by 20 per cent

MUMBAI: Red FM has announced a 20 per cent hike in it's advertising rates with effect from 10 June 2013.

Commenting on the increase, Red FM COO Nisha Narayanan said, "Red FM as a brand has always believed in delivering true value to it’s advertisers and has commanded premium / leadership rates and has maintained a position of a market leader in terms of Volume and Value Share so far."

MUMBAI: Physical music is stagnating as digital is taking a steep rise. Digital is considered as the new area of focus but South Indian music industry which also has been growing digitally may have different side to present.

South Indian Music Companies Association (SIMCA) joint secretary Rajesh Dhupad said, “Southern music industry’s physical music has faced a stagnant growth meanwhile digital is growing at 15-20 per cent. In terms of digital, we are hoping a continuum growth in six months.”
