Eddie Van Halen undergoes emergency operation

MUMBAI: Guitar legend Edward Van Halen recently underwent an emergency stomach surgery which has forced the multi-platinum band- Van Halen- to cancel its Japan tour. According to reports, 57 year-old Halen underwent emergency surgery for a “severe bout of diverticulitis,” a disorder of the digestive system. “No further surgeries are needed and he is expected to recover within four-six months,” it said. Due to heath issues, Halen's November 2012 Japan tour is currently being rescheduled and the band looks forward to seeing and playing for its fans in 2013.

Colors and Sahara One ride high with 'Sur-Kshetra'

MUMBAI: In a first of its kind face-off, Indian singers will take on their Pakistani counterparts in upcoming reality show- ‘Sur-Kshetra’. The show which has been produced by Sahara One and Sai Baba Telefilms will  be simulcast on general entertainment channels (GEC) ‘Colors’ and ‘ Sahara One’ from 8 September (7.30 pm) every Saturday and Sunday. It will also be telecast in Pakistan’s Geo TV channel simultaneously.

Stringent mobile radiation norms into force

NEW DELHI: Although no tangible evidence is available linking radiation from mobile phones to health issues, mobiles to be manufactured from 1 September will have one tenth of the radiation levels compared to the present mobiles. The Government has also said that the present mobile handsets with existing designs which are compliant with 2.0 W/kg averaged over 10 gram of human tissue will continue to co-exist up to 31 August 2013. Thereafter, only the mobile handsets with revised SAR value of 1.6 W/kg would be permitted to be manufactured or imported in India.

Listenership of AIR channels continues to decline

New Delhi: The listenership of All India Radio's main FM Channel, FM Gold has fallen over the last three years from 30.7 per cent in 2009-10 to 17.8 per cent in 2011-12. The listenership of the channel in 2010-11 was 18.9 per cent, AIR sources told radioandmusic.com. The number of people who listen to AIR's other FM Channel – FM Rainbow – had also fallen from 47.5 per cent in 2009-10 to 37.7 per cent in 2010-11 but rose marginally to 38.5 per cent in 2011-12.
