MUMBAI: Radio Indigo national sales director Nabhojit Kuila has resigned and would be quitting the organisation by the end of October.
The FM station, a venture of Jupiter Media, has been without an operations head since Jayyant Bokhare resigned in March this year.
Confirming the development, Radio Indigo managing director Sanjay Prabhu says, Nabhojit Kuila has put in his papers and is serving his notice period till this month end. We are in the process of identifying professionals from other media sectors to head sales for Radio Indigo and would be filling the post in by November....
After Bokhare quit in March this year, Kuila oversaw the head of operations portfolio, apart from being the national sales director. Prabhu confirms, With Kuila's exit, we would be appointing a professional from the radio industry to head our operations. Apart from that, we would be making an appointment for the post of programming head and are on a look out for a professional with an expertise in differential content and programming followed by Radio Indigo....
The station owing to its differential positioning of playing English music, cannot poach from rival stations which play vernacular music. Radio Indigo programming head Geoffrey Thomas quit in June this year to join Muthoot Group's FM radio venture Chennai Live as Chief programming officer.
Prabhu confirms that all the new appointees would be joining Radio Indigo in November and the station would be firming up its programming with the new team in place.
Kuila, who has been with Radio Indigo since its inception in 2006, has been responsible for much of the commercial success of Radio Indigo. He would be moving to Delhi to join a leading digital media company. I would be joining the digital media company in November as the national sales manager. I came from a digital media background, prior to radio, and would be returning to the medium.... Kuila was the head of south business for indiatimes.com prior to his stint with Radio Indigo.

I have heard this station a few times on my trips to Bangalore. Besides playing random International songs back to back, there is nothing on air that really keeps a listener hooked. The evening guy seems to sound the same every single day. Nothing new or refreshing. Is it that hard to get a bunch of intelligent and funny RJs who can keep listeners hooked like the ones we have here in Mumbai? I thought Bangalore had really good talent.
As someone who has been intimately associated with the radio industry in Bangalore, I can vouch for the fact that Indigo has been managed disastrously. The don't have a vision and they can't hold on to talent. Their RJs', apart from a Barker or a Saggy as not someone you'd even remember and they're certainly not doing anything to up their standards. I stopped listening to Indigo the day they cut a song, halfway through, to air the station jingle. Even the programming head has no idea what audience perception is... no one really gives a damn about playing station jingles on the top of the hour. It's only the folks inside the studio.
Anyway, one should hope these new guys have SOME idea... of what they intend to do.
I have no clue about what internally happens in Indigo & what they pay, but I have had 3 friends who have worked there & have only raved about the place & the fun they have had. People moving for career enhancement is not new or surprising to any industry or profession. & " hobbies come with passion" - RC My point being - while all other radio stations churn out the normal regional stuff and have a dozen RJs yacking away to glory about things they have no clue about or are no authority on, Radio Indigo brings that breath of freshness with the music they play & their non over jazzed up content. The different genre they cater to & stay abreast with the intrtnal music scene is remarkable. Ive stpd buying CDs since indigo happnd. Kudos to Indigo! Like Bro Barker sayS keep the dials locked on to 91.9 and go fully mental..!!!! Forget the aimless banter OF THE INCONSEQUENTIAL.
People leave this radio network because it is a hopeless place to work. The company has no vision, no long term plans and is managed extremely inefficiently by a senior management team who have no clue about running a radio network. Its Rajeev Chandrashekar`s hobby channel and its a classic example of a frequency wasted. They would have been better off picking up a community radio frequency and vacating this frequency for a more professional setup to run an international station. International music though Niche, can be run extremely well with a talented programming team and a sales team that delivers . Plenty of available talent in Bangalore. Unfortunately, they tend to pay peanuts and you only get monkeys for that price. Not too many monkeys left in Bangalore now. Good luck to whoever joins Indigo. This one is a goner!
