Mumbai: RDB (Rhythm, Dhol and Bass), the trio is riding high with the release of their title song for the upcoming HIndi movie Aloo Chaat.... The movie stars Aftab Shivdasani and Aamna Shariff in the lead.
RDB (Rhythm, Dhol and Bass), a group of three Sikh brothers - Kuly, Manjeet and Surjeet have been performing, producing and DJing at nightclubs, parties and festivals for many years now.
Surjeet Singh, the youngest of the trio says that the experience of working on Aloo Chaat was a memorable one. When approached to work on the title track, the brothers found the name of the movie Aloo Chaat... quite interesting. He said that they had to keep their minds open and when it came down to recording the song in the studio it was all about getting creative. He feels that everything has worked out well and shooting for the video of �Aloo Chaat' was an amazing experience as it was like one big family on the sets.
Nindy Kaur(wife of Manjeet), an established singer in the Punjabi music scene also lends her vocals to the song and features in the video along with RDB, Aftab Shivdasani and Aamna Shariff.
Growing up in Bradford, UK, the brothers were exposed to music from both worlds and this influenced them to start blending different genres of western music while retaining the Punjabi music flavour that symbolized their roots. The RDB brothers play a fusion of Bhangra, House, UK garage, Hindi, Bollywood, RnB, Hip-hop, Ragga and Dance music. They have performed with Tim Westwood, Mc Romeo, So Solid Crew, Shola Ama, The Dream Team, Misteeq, UK Apachi.
Speaking about their interest in mainstream Bollywood films, Surjeet says that the transition was only natural as they eventually wanted to find their way back to their roots. They are looking to expand more in the Hindi film music scene and re looking forward to their future projects in Bollywood.
RDB also has their own internet based TV channel - RDBTV.COM which takes a fresh look at the UK Bhangra scene with in-depth interviews, performances, music reviews and other information.
The brothers handle different aspects on the music front for RDB with Kuly owning his own studio in UK and handling shows in Australia and Singapore for RDB, Manjeet busy with his studio in Toronto and handling shows in North America and Canada and Surjeet handling shows in Europe and Dubai and elsewhere. He says that despite their busy schedules, when it comes down to making their music they sit down and put their heads together to make music that they are truly passionate about.
Having worked with Snoop Dogg and other international artists from the Hip Hop, Rnb and Punjabi scene, they are now in the process of collaborating with a lot of artists from New York, Los Angeles and Pakistan.
RDB had collaborated with Singer Himesh Reshammiya in 2006 on a track called Rafta Rafta from the movie, Namastey London. They also created the title track of Singh is Kinng in 2008, titled Singh is Kinng which featured the vocals of Snoop Dogg & Akshay Kumar. They are currently working on the music for an upcoming Bollywood movie, Kambakht Ishq starring Akshay Kumar.
