Akriti Kakar thanks the Bengalis through new song 'Kolkata Diaries'

MUMBAI: Famous for the dance numbers like 'Iski Uski and 'Saturday Saturday', Akriti Kakar debuts her first single 'Kolkata Diaries'. The single is composed by the Bengali music director Joy Sarkar with words by Manoj Yadav.

Kakar spoke to Radioandmusic.com about the inspiration behind the song. Despite not being a Bengali, she received a positive response. Kakar uses this song as a token of gratitude towards all the Bengalis. This has been expresses in the song through lyrics in Bengali folk such "Tomay Hrid Majhare Rakhibo, Chhede debo na", which means "I am going to keep your love in my heart and won't ever let it go."

Kakar met Sarkar on 'Saregamapa Little Champs' on Zee Bangla. They started off as colleagues and then became great friends. She has been a huge fan of his compositions. "It is crazy fun working with him. He is a true gentleman and yet doesn't let a moment pass in the absence of laughter! We came down to Mumbai where we recorded the song. We decided to go totally organic in its making with the best musicians in the business. We used unusual instruments such as dotara too on it. We kept teaching each other Bangla and Hindi," said Kakar.

"Each time I work on anything independent I look out for someone who understands my emotion behind doing it. Manoj caught the pulse from the word go and he has written the whole song beautifully from the point of view of me thanking my audiences as well as love being addressed to a beloved. Overall I guess it was a perfect team that knew how to get great work together and make sure each minute is fun," continued Kakar.

Hopefully, Kakar aims to release her next single by the end of the year. Kakar says that the flavour of her next song will be totally different. "It will showcase a side of my singing which is really experimental and really different from all that's been heard as yet."

One will soon hear Kakar's melodious voice in an upcoming beautiful romantic song called 'Bus Tum Ho' composed by Kailash Kher from the movie 'Desi Kattey'. Also there are two lovely songs in 'Tina and Lolo' composed by Arko Pravo Mukherjee.
