Musicians pay tribute to funny man- Robin Williams after sudden death

MUMBAI: When news first broke that actor and stand-up comedian Robin Williams had passed, it shocked millions around the world. The five time Grammy winner was found dead in his California home on 11 August by police and was pronounced dead at the scene. Reports suggest that the 63 year old actor committed suicide through asphyxia.

In his career, which spans over three decades, he has had some notable roles in films like 'Good Morning, Vietnam', 'Dead Poets Society', 'Mrs. Doubtfire', 'The Birdcage' and 'The Fisher King' among many others.

As news of Williams' passing started to sink in, a number of musicians took to social media to pay tribute to the funny man.

British rock band Def Leppard tweeted, "#RIP to one of the best ever, Sir Robin Williams".

Pop superstar Rihanna, not only tweeted, "Heartbreaking news about the late Robin Williams. May his soul now be at peace!" but also changed her profile picture to an image of Williams' Hollywood walk of fame star.

Veteran rocker Bryan Adams also took to his Twitter to express his sadness posting, "Robin Williams RIP. Our song from "Jack", suddenly has more meaning. Goodbye dear soul."

Puerto Rican musician Ricky Martin also posted a message on Facebook that said, "?#?RIPRobinWilliams I am shocked and saddened. ?#?comedygenius"

English singer/ songwriter Jessie J said on Facebook, "Thank you for sharing your genius with us Robin Williams. God bless you."

Rocker Tommy Lee posted a picture on Twitter of himself with the actor along with a caption that read, "This is the saddest day ever! The kindest man I have ever met leaves us all today! @robinwilliams my heart bleeds"

Rapper Diddy tweeted, "Can't believe we lost a legend today. RIP Robin Williams- your legacy will live on forever."

P!nk said on Twitter, "My prayers+sad heart are with Robin Williams' family tonight. Only met him once, but it was once of the most enjoyable moments of my life RIP"

Heavy metal vocalist and frontman of Black Sabbath, Ozzy Osbourne tweeted, "Such a tragic loss. I will always have amazing memories of @RobinWilliams. Respect and love goes out to his family."

Rocker Peter Frampton also took to Twitter to pay tribute posting, "So sad about dear Robin Williams. True genius. We r all lucky 2 have been able 2 experience his unique talent He always raised our spirits."

Meanwhile, pop superstar Lady Gaga not only remembered the actor, but also offered help. She posted on her Facebook page, "Rest in Peace+Laughter Robin Williams. Perhaps this tragedy will shed light on the seriousness of depression. You made us all so so happy. Please reach out to http://bornthiswayfoundation.org if you are struggling with depression, mental illness or addiction. You are not alone."

Williams had been battling depression and addiction to alcohol and drugs for a number of years. On many occasions, he used humour to make light of his addiction. Tributes for the Oscar winning actor are still pouring in from all over the world.
