Coldplay's Chris Martin hopes to pen song for Rihanna's new album

MUMBAI: Even while Coldplay is still revelling in the success of its latest album 'Ghost Stories', frontman Chris Martin is hard at work, penning a song for pop superstar Rihanna. During an interview with New York's radio station Fresh, the British singer/ songwriter revealed that he is hard at work in the studio for the Barbadian singer.

"I don't think she even asked, I just said, 'please can I try something?'" he told the station. However, it is unclear whether or not the Grammy winning singer will make it onto RiRi's upcoming album. "She has so many amazing people writing for her," Martin said. "It's like trying to win American Idol, getting a song on Rihanna's album."

Martin and Rihanna first collaborated in 2011 for the track 'Princess of China' which was part of Coldplay's fifth studio album 'Mylo Xyloto'.

Earlier in June the 'Diamonds' singer announced via Twitter that an eighth studio album is on its way. The simple and vague post included an image of a mixing board, along with a caption, "#R8". Currently, Rihanna is busy touring alongside rapper Eminem for their 'Monster' tour.

The Coldplay singer also revealed on the show, that the band has already started working on some new material. "We have just an idea and then we're gonna go on tour after that," he added.
