Birth anniversary of legendary Kishore Kumar's celebrated on radio

MUMBAI: It is not just Google Doodle, but also the traditional medium Radio had programmed itself to celebrate the 85th birth anniversary of the 'Mere Saamne Wali Khidki Mein' singer Kishore Da. The radio stations like BIG FM and Radio City had special plans for the day.

The day is not about songs but much more than that. Radio network Radio City decided to break away from the traditional pattern of only playing Kishore Da songs throughout the day. The special day initiative was called 'Khud Kishore' in which Radio City aired rare archived interviews of Kishore Kumar with special presenter Ameen Sayani. The loved presenter Sayani allowed the station to access his collection on Kumar, thus, making the day special through radio.

'Khud Kishore' was played in Mumbai, Delhi, Ahmedabad, Lucknow, Baroda, Surat, Jaipur, Nagpur, Pune, and Ahmednagar amongst others. Since it was not completely off music, the radio station played some famous selected track of Kumar. The stations had RJs talking about anecdotes related to the legend.

The retro station BIG FM is running a week long 'Kishore Kumar artiste special' on the breakfast show and also invited son of legendary Kishore Da, Amit Kumar on 4 August. The station has not limited the celebration to morning but has extended it to various time slots as in the 'Evening Drive'- Kishore's songs will be played. The network's Mumbai station is broadcasting highlights of the show 'Immortal Kishore' when his sons Amit and Sumit Kumar sang together for the first time for their father's birth anniversary at Shanmukhananda Hall. Meanwhile, in Delhi, the station will air Kishore songs both solo and duets from 9 am to 7 pm and have named it as 'Yadon me Kishore'. Annu Kapoor is taking listeners through 'Suahana Safar' of the Kishore Kumar. In the morning and evening, the station is running interviews of the singer-actor. All shows will run interviews of retro artistes like Laxmikant Pyarelal, Bappi Lahiri, Amit Kumar and many other artistes.

Hottest Radio station Radio Mirchi programmed the show 'Purani Jeans' to celebrate the birth anniversary of the Kumar.

Overall, the listeners got the option to choose the stations according to the different programming of the stations.
