Jeet Gannguli makes his singing debut in Bollywood

MUMBAI: After bagging maximum accolades for 'Aashiqui 2' as a composer, Jeet Gannguli has made his debut as a singer for an upcoming film 'City Lights', which is directed by Hansal Mehta. Apart from composing for the film, Gannguli has also lent his voice for the unplugged version of the song 'Ek Charraiya'.

Talking about the brief given to him, he said that the producers invited him to watch the film first and then compose music. "There was no specific brief given to me as Maheshji wanted me to watch the film first and then make music accordingly. I could relate to the story of 'City Lights' because I left my hometown and came to Mumbai to become a composer as well. Since I could relate to the film, I concentrated more on making soothing melodies," said the 'Chahun Main Yaa Na' composer to Radioandmusic.com.

The producers or the director did not interfere with the music and gave him a freehand, which is why the album features a variety of tracks. Commenting on the same, Gannguli said, "There are a very few times that you get creative freedom and I am happy that I have worked with producers like these."

The song 'Muskurane' has a couple of versions; one sung by Arijit Singh and the other by Mohammed Irfan. Similarly, 'Ek Charriya' has two versions one sung by Jeet Gannguli and the other by Arijit Singh. Revealing the reasons behind the different versions, Gannguli said, "Actually Hansal Mehta wanted a couple of versions to these songs because even the unplugged versions are to be used in the film. He also wanted both the versions in different voices. Thus I created different versions," concluded Gannguli.
