Benny Dayal gets candid about his song in Holiday and 2 States

MUMBAI: Benny Dayal has always hit the right chords with his music. Despite having several peppy numbers like 'Badtameez Dil', 'Lat Lag Gaye', and 'Punjabi Wedding', Dayal has also been associated with singing in regional languages. He recorded a song in Bengali and Marathi.

When asked if he is planning to expand his regional base, he said to Radioandmusic.com, "I am always open to singing in different languages since I have sung in most of the south Indian languages, Marathi and Bengali also."

He recently recorded a song called, 'Tu Hi Toh Hai', for the Akshay Kumar starrer 'Holiday'. The music for the film has been composed by Pritam. "The brief that I was given for the song was that it was a romantic track with a bit an element of peppiness. It was fun recording the song," he added.

The song 'Locha-E- Ulfat', from '2 States', is currently on number three on iTunes India and the vocals of the same have been rendered by Dayal. Reminiscing an incident during the recording of the song, the 29 year old said, "It is always great working with Shankar Ehsaan Loy (SEL), and they had been so good to me right from the first day. I had a sore throat, so they asked me to come the next day and said that the song was mine and I had no reason to worry."

A singer always juggles the roles of a performer on stage and a recording artiste. The former takes a toll on the voice especially during recordings. When asked on how does the, 'Lat Lag Gaye' singer strike a balance between the two he said, "Whenever I have a song to record, I make sure that I have a gap of one and a half or two days so that the stage fatigue does not take a toll on my voice."

When not recording or not performing, he loves to catch up on his sleep. "I sleep almost for 17-20 hours a day, when I am not recording," he concluded.
