Madboy/Mink to release first EP 'All Ball' on 3 April

MUMBAI: The funk/nu disco duo Madboy/Mink is releasing their first EP, titled 'All Ball' on 3 April 2014 for free download.

The five tracks on 'All Ball' maintain the duo's largely grimy sound; while being rooted in a classic funk and disco aesthetic. They also draw from swing, musical theatre and French electro at various points through the record. Madboy/Mink's is a sound that blends the old with the new, only strengthened by their quirky songwriting style.

Imaad Shah (aka Madboy) said, "With 'All Ball', we wanted to create a fictional, surreal film noir dance party which could have taken place as much in a '20's or '30's Harlem speakeasy, as it could have in a late '70's Studio 54 type space, as it can on a massive stadium festival stage today. We like blurring the lines between eras and styles, and hopefully we end up with something which is none of the above but, in fact, distinctly ours."

One of the tracks on the EP, 'Alley Cats', for instance, is, in fact, an ode to being lean and hungry, and talks about the animals, humans and other creatures that constantly fight for their existence. 'Pimp The Disco', takes disco music and places it in a contemporary soundscape. There is a play on the word 'disco', which could imply the genre, a space, or both. Saba Azad (Mink) raps on this track, which also draws from dirty French electro. The other tracks are titled 'Lemonade', 'Funkenstein' and 'Taste Your Kiss'.

The launch of 'All Ball' will be accompanied by a multi-city tour, beginning in Bangalore on the 4 April, followed by Mumbai on 5 April, Delhi on 12 April, Kolkata on 25 April and Pune on 4 May.

The Mumbai-based artistes are also popular theatre and film actors. Shah and Azad have been producing music and performing around the country for the past year, and in that short time have managed to rake up quite the following for their massively energetic live performances and essentially unique sound. They have managed to earn a name for themselves as one of the brightest and most distinctive sounds in the Indian independent electronic music circuit. The duo has previously performed at Sunburn 2013, Bacardi NH7 Weekender, Magnetic Fields and Enchanted Valley Carnival.
