Shashaa Tirupati sings for Kochadaiyaan's Vaada Vaada

MUMBAI: After getting an opportunity to work with AR Rahman on MTV Coke Studio, singer Shashaa Tirupati has been signed up to sing for a Rahman composed track 'Vaada Vaada' from the upcoming 3D film 'Kochadaiyaan'. She was also part of Rahmanishq world tour and will soon be travelling to Malaysia and Singapore for the Oscar winner's 'Infinite Love' tour.

Tirupati, who moved to Mumbai at the age of 19, says, "For 12 years, I worshipped Rahman Sir and now I got an opportunity to work with him. It was through an audition that I was selected to join a Hindustani Classical Choir that sang for MTV Coke Studio. Working with Rahman Sir for the track in 'Kochadaiyaan' was a great experience. This perhaps is one of the tracks in my career so far wherein my voice has been used very aptly. This is the most beautiful thing about Sir. He knows exactly what he wants and where he needs you." She recorded the track three times before it was finalised in December.

The Indo-Canadian singer has lent her voice to many regional films, several Bollywood films and more than 500 jingles. She adds, "I have worked with some renowned music composers in the south. Now, I would like to sing for hard-core Bollywood films with many music composers like Vishal-Shekhar, Pritam, Shankar-Eshaan-Loy and Honey Singh to name a few. I am all for soul in music and would love to work and learn from all kind of musicians." She has also sung for Marathi films and Tamil films, which are suppose to be released soon."

Her music journey started at the age of five when she started singing for a local radio in Canada. She enjoyed singing tracks by Lata Mangeshkar and Mohd. Rafi, which were eventually replaced by Rahman's music, she revealed. When Tirupati shifted to Allahabad, she was trained in Hindustani Classical music by Kamala Bose. She also took lesson under Padmashree Girija Devi for a while.

She started her playback singing career with Priyadarshan's film 'Bumm Bumm Bole', a remake of Iranian film 'Children of Heaven', with the song 'Rang De'. Other Bollywood films in which her tracks can be heard include 'Turning 30', 'Be Careful', 'Yeh Stupid Pyar', 'Karle Pyaar Karle' and 'Jo Hum Chahein'.

Apart from film projects, her solo gigs and other projects like corporate videos, voice-over for animated films and educational projects are keeping her on her toes. Tirupati is the lead vocalist of the band 'Jashan' and she is working on an album along with other bands. The album which she is working on consists of electronic classic music and will be out soon.
