Justin Bieber booed by home crowd at Juno Awards

MUMBAI: Justin Bieber maybe a Canadian native, but at the Juno Awards which were held on 30 March in Winnipeg, the pop superstar was booed by his home crowd when he was announced winner of the Fan Choice Award. The 'Baby' singer, who has been in the news quite a bit for his notorious behaviour, was not present at the event. But that did not stop the crowd from booing him when his name was called out.

In his stead, the Canadian Olympic women's curling team accepted the award. Bieber's fellow Canadian musician- Serena Ryder came to the teenage popstar's defence when she accepted her award for Songwriter of the Year. Ryder said, “I really think that Justin Bieber is an amazing musician and he deserved every bit of that award because he's been working his a** off his entire life and we need to support how awesome he is.” Ryder was also awarded Artist of the Year.

Other winners at the Juno Awards include pop duo Tegan and Sara, who collectively won three awards including Pop Album of the Year (Heartthrob), Group of the Year and Single of the Year (Closer). Despite losing out the gong for Single of the Year to the ladies, alternative rock band Arcade Fire took home two awards- Alternate Album of the Year and Album of the Year for its latest album 'Reflektor'.

Rapper Drake won the Juno Rap Recording of the Year for his track 'Nothing Was the Same', while American singer/ songwriter was awarded International Album of the Year for his 2012 release 'Unorthodox Jukebox'. Dean Brody won Country Album of the Year for his album 'Crop Circles'.
