Deadmau5 to play closing set for UMF post Avicii's hospitalisation

MUMBAI: Ultra Music Festival (UMF) announced Canadian DJ-producer Deadmau5 as a special guest to play the closing set for day two of the Miami festival on 29 March. The decision was made after Grammy nominated Swedish DJ Avicii was hospitalised for a gallbladder issue and is currently under treatment.

Other acts on the second day of the festival include names like Armin van Buuren, Above & Beyond, Alesso, Nicky Romero and Martin Garrix.

Before the official announcement was made Deadmau5 tweeted, "well… looks like my stay here in Miami just got extended for a couple more days ;)." An hour or so later, he tweeted that a strange thing had happened. But is glad that he is could help his friend out and will be with his fans on 29 March.

This was followed by the announcement that Deadmau5 would be performing at the festival via UMF’s Twitter account.

Resident DJ of Ultra Music Festival- Mykris will open day two of the festival with his 30 minutes set starting at 12 pm on the Main stage.

Dutch DJ Afrojack also announced via Twitter that he was in a local hospital suffering dehydration and trying to "prevent an early end to this weekend". He tweeted, "Im ok, dehydrated and overworked, guess i got a little too excited," which came as a relief to his fans, who are waiting for his UMF performance.

The first day of the Ultra Music Festival saw the likes of Kaskade, Zedd and Showtek while Dutch DJ Tiësto played the closing set.

UMF, which is in its 16th edition, will be streamed live on the festival’s official website. The festival is being held at Bayfront Park in Downtown Miami. Started in 1999, it was a one day festival till 2006.

Other Ultra festivals are held in Spain, Argentina, Brazil, Chile, South Korea, South Africa and Croatia.
