Arpita Chakraborty's haunting lullaby for Ragini MMS 2

MUMBAI: Arpita Chakraborti, the relative newbie in the Bollywood music industry has rendered a haunting lullaby for the much anticipated film 'Ragini MMS 2', starring adult film star Sunny Leone.

Expressing her thoughts about the song, Chakraborty said, "It is a lullaby and it is a little scary. I was briefed about the song. The music director told me that the song is a story and this mom is trying to put her child to sleep."She also hinted that the child for whom the lullaby is written might be a dead. "But I am not sure because I have not seen the movie yet,"she quickly added.

In her opinion, the best part about the song was that it is very melodious and the lyrics are very sweet, with words like 'shehed ki sadak pe hoga barfi ka makaan' (on a road made of honey you will find a house made of sweets). "It is told like a fairytale but it is very scary. I fell in love with the lyrics and the melody was so good,"she confessed.

The artiste explained how the challenging song became easy to materialise, thanks to the brief and guidance provided by music director Chirantan Bhatt. Speaking about how she felt like she was playing different roles, she said, "I had to sound sweet and scary at the same time, while telling a story the entire time."

The track has Sufi elements and describes the love and feelings of a mother who has gone through her child's recent passing. Chakraborty revealed that the song will be used a lot of times in the movie and that it was like a theme song.

Apparently a lot of music directors had been approached for this song and they had all tried their hand at it. Ultimately, when Ekta kapoor and Bhushan Patel heard this one, they completely fell in love with it.

The reviews and responses for the track seemed to have overwhelmed Chakraborty a bit. "The reviewers and fans have really loved the song and the talking point about it is that it is a very different song, something that you would not ordinarily get to hear. 'Loris' in Bollywood are all very happy and sweet and this song breaks that mould. I was very happy when one of the reviews compared the song with classics like 'Gumnaam Hai Koi' and 'Naina Barse'.

When asked how the song has done compared to other songs that have been released, Chakraborty replied, "This (Lori of Death) is the only song which is really appropriate for the movie. The others, like 'Baby Doll' and 'Chaar Bottal Vodka', are promotional songs and meant to be chartbusters. Unlike the others, Lori of Death has been used in the movie."

Her debut in Bollywood was a duet with Shafqat Amanat Ali Khan for the song 'Ras Bhare Tore Nain', for the film 'Satyagraha'.
