Mirchi Music Awards honours Shah Rukh Khan with special award

MUMBAI: After spending sleepless nights in studios and touring the world, it is time for musicians and singers to gather together for the 6th edition of the Royal Stag Mirchi Music Awards and appreciate the best work of last year in the music industry. This edition will witness maestro A R Rahman winning the International Icon Award and will also see Anandji Bhai (one half of the duo Kalyanji Anandji) take home the Life Time Achievement Award.

This edition along with the usual categories has added a rather interesting category called 'Badshah of Romantic Hits' and the recipient in its debut year is Bollywood's very own badshah Shah Rukh Khan. While it may please tons of Bollywood fans, it seems to be an unanticipated element in a music award function where artistes are rewarded for their hard work.

The award for Best Album of The Golden Era will be given to Anarkali (1953 film).

Performing at the event will be newbie acts- Aditya Narayan, Naqash, Ankit Tiwari, Aditi Singh Sharma and Anmol Malik. Singer Mika Singh will also pay tribute to the legendary R.D. Burman in song.

The on-ground award function will be held at Yashraj Studio on 27 February at 8pm.

The jury for this year's awards was headed by Javed Akhtar. The jury comprised members of the Hindi music fraternity like Sameer, Prasoon Joshi, Irshad Kamil, Swanand Kirkire, Ramesh Sippy, Subhash Ghai, Sooraj Barjatya, Sudhir Mishra, Anurag Basu, Shankar Mahadevan, Anu Malik, Aadesh Shrivastava, Lalit Pandit, Louiz Banks, Raju Singh, Suresh Wadkar, Sadhna Sargam, Kavita Krishnamurthy, Talat Aziz, Alka Yagnik, Sapna Mukherjee, Illa Arun and Shailendra Singh.
