Ankur Tiwari believes can improve indiPepsi MTV Indiese scene

The buzz around the anticipated launch gig for Viacom 18's new channel- Pepsi MTV Indies has heightened beyond measure. Speaking with Radioandmusic.com the channel's programming head Ankur Tiwari, frontman of soft rock band Ghalat Family shared the concept behind the line-up for the launch, how now is an exciting time for upcoming artistes and what the channel can offer to all.

"It is going to be quite exciting because we have a very interesting line up for the launch gig," said Ankur, "It is pretty much the cr?me de la cr?me of the indie scene. We will be having the younger artistes collaborating with bands that have been playing around for a long time."

Having seen the scene evolve over several years, Ankur explains how now would be a good time of artistes to be starting out. "It is an exciting time to be starting, because I think this (Indies) is the only thing that was missing from the scene. There have been several musicians who have been doing their thing and playing their music for a very long time but they were lacking a platform at the end of the day. I really feel that Pepsi MTV Indies will serve as that hub where independent artistes of any kind can interact with each other and the audiences."

He further spoke about what the channel has to offer across platforms. "The channel launched its app on 6 February which is available across all app stores. This way, the brand will then have a television channel, a website and an application for you phone. They are all going to be pitching in company money to organise on-ground activities as well. Altogether, it should round things up nicely."

When asked if he feels bands will be pressured into making videos compulsorily now, Tiwari dismissed the idea by saying, "We are living in a generation where more people see music than listen to music and all bands, whatever the bandwidth is, has been making videos for quite some time. I feel that instead of just putting in on the internet, there will be another avenue for their music to be seen."

He also explained how Pepsi MTV Indies plans on making a video every month with an upcoming band for one of their tracks. Needless to say, they do not have the funds to make videos for everyone but
