Elton John's film company to turn 'Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat' into animated feature

MUMBAI: Elton John's film company has obtained the rights to turn popular musical 'Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat' into a full length animated feature. The announcement regarding the acquisition came on Wednesday via the singer's company- Rocket Pictures.

The musical was originally created by British composer Andrew Lloyd Webber and British lyricist and author- Tim Rice. The film will be made in association with Really Useful Group, which is Webber's production company. Along with John, Rice and Webber will also serve as executive producers on the upcoming feature.

Originally written for performances in schools, 'Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat' was the first publically staged musical for Webber and Rice. However, it made its way to the Broadway stage in 1982 and since then, has managed to earn over $600 million at the box office and has been seen by an estimated 26 million people. 'Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat' is based on a story from the Book of Genesis titled 'coat of many colours'.

Meanwhile, Rocket Pictures also revealed that it will be producing a new musical titled 'Rocketman', which will be based on the 'Candle in the Wind' singer's life. Reports state that the lead role of the musical will star 'Inception' actor Tom Hardy.
