Shweta Pandit: Acting was never planned

MUMBAI: This singer/ actress started her journey with the mic at the age of 12 singing five songs for the film Mohabbatein, and since then Shweta Pandit has never looked back. Recently, the 28 year old teamed up with AR Rahman for the film Highway. The duo came together to recreate magic for the song ‘Heera’, which is based couplets of Sant Kabir.

When asked by Radioandmusic.com’s Dhairya Ingle about her experience working with the musical genius, all she could say is, "It is a dream come true. There is no better way that I could put this. The best part about Rahman Sir is that he allows you to make mistakes and gives you the amount of time to soak up the hidden emotions."

The recording happened in the wee hours of the night in the presence of the director, Imtiyaz Ali. The only brief given to her was that the song should come from the soul." I was in tears when Rahman Sir explained to me the meaning of the couplets, not that I have read these poems for the first time. But at times you just read for the heck of it and do not understand the true meaning of the lines," elaborated Pandit. The recording was wrapped up in less than an hour.

Pandit has been a lead vocalist for Rahmanish, but for the first time is rendering her voice for the maestro and will be working with him again for an upcoming project. She will also be teaming up with Salim Sulaiman and Pritam.

She will also be featured in the movie Barkha. "For me acting was never planned. It just happened. Although music remains my first priority," said the songstress. She describes herself as a joker as she loves to make people laugh even if it is at her own cost. Her hobbies also include travelling and photography.
