Idea Jalsa prepares for second phase of on ground concert

MUMBAI: December 2013 saw the end of Phase I of the Idea Jalsa 2013-14 concert tour. And with January the Idea Jalsa Team is busy at work promoting Phase II of the tour which is set to kick start on 17 January in Kolkata. It will then travel to Ranchi (25 January), Calicut (1 February), Chennai (8 February), Jaipur (12 February) and Delhi (15 February).

Speaking with Radioandmusic.com, Art And Artistes (AAA) founder and director Durga Jasraj said, "The preparation for Phase II is in full-swing. All the promotional activity has started in all the malls and various outlets in Kolkata and Ranchi." Performing in Kolkata will be Hariharan and Nachiketa Chakraborty, who is a contemporary singer and composer and also sings Ghazals and Thumri. "He is a very talented man. He will perform with Hariharan," she said of Chakroborty. Meanwhile, performing in Ranchi will be Pandit Rattan Mohan Sharma and Anup Jalota.

However, Mumbai will not be on the list for this edition. "This tour will not have Mumbai as last year in March we had toured the city. Yet another strong reason is that this year in Maharashtra we chose Pune, as performing here was pending for a while now."

Idea Jalsa, like last time, will have live webcasting; however, the team is not publicising it. The team feels that there might be many technical issues in these Tier II and Tier III cities. "There was a live webcast for the Ahmedabad tour. Three and half lakh people were watching it. That is how phenomenal it was. We did not publicise the webcasting as there is an issue of connectivity. For instance, we will not go live in Ranchi due to connectivity issue," she added. Filming of the concert is taking place in HD quality, making it harder to have bandwidth that supports such a heavy file.

The television version for Idea Jalsa is already telecasted in 165 countries around the world. "This version of Idea Jalsa is used to provide content for our Youtube Channel. If the shows are not live on Youtube then we will have a recorded version on the channel two or three days after the event. But currently, we do not plan to use the current version of Idea Jalsa to television," Jasraj said.

The journey of Idea Jalsa began in 2006 as a ground concert tour across 39 cities. In its third year, Idea Jalsa went on air as a television program of 78 episodes on Doordarshan. Since February 2011 Idea Jalsa has been running successfully on Zee TV.

AAA plans to strengthen their digital team to monetise their content that would be provided digitally. "We are very active digitally. We already have eight people behind it," she added. The Youtube channel of AAA that started in June last year has about 1,705 subscribers and 427,462 views. Their Facebook page has 10 thousand Likes and they hope to achieve more.

AAA has also planned something special for women, Jasraj hinted.
