Its 'Ek Main Aur Ek Tu' time for Shefali Alvares

MUMBAI: The bubbly playback singer with a ‘Party On My Mind’ image is all set to settle down early next year. That is right. Your ‘Tu Mera Hero’ sensation will be tying the knot and, obviously, Radioandmusic.com’s Disha Deshpande wanted an inside view of the preparations and progress.

Talking about her man, Shefali Alvares chuckles. “His name is Ali Rashid and he is from Bhopal. His grandmother was the last Begum of Bhopal. He runs a hotel in the jungle in Satpura. It is a forest Lodge. So I will be living there, in the jungle, 3 hours out of Bhopal. The date has been fixed. I will be tying the knot on 9 January 2014,” she tells us excitedly.

Of course, moving to Bhopal is a big step. Talking about her careers, she said in assuaging tones, “Well, for now I am just going to take it as it comes. I will be shifting to Bhopal. The shows and all will continue as I can fly from there to wherever I need to be. I think I will just go with the flow of life. It is the next phase of my life, in a way.” But she did add something personal. “ Work has never been the be all and end all of my life. I have always been a person who follows her heart, more than anything else. I guess that is who I am (laughs). Right now, my heart is pointing ‘Bhopal’”.

We all know girls and their ability to blush. Speaking about how she felt, Alvares said with some rosiness, “Quite strange and quite excited. Every girl has this dream that at some point she wants to be married and have babies, so I think it is exciting. I have finally met a guy who I have completely fallen in love with and everything is just right, you know? He is a complete nature person and so am I, and it is amazing to be living in the wild like that. I think getting married is going to be one of the happiest times of my life.”

A celebrity wedding leaves the fans in much anticipation. Telling us about the preparations, she piped, “Arrangements? I have no idea (laughs). It is fine, I guess. It is happening slowly. But the clothes are kind of settled now.” When we were just not happy with the reply, she revealed names of the designers for her wedding outfits. “In terms of designers, there are a couple of things that I have looked at. My Nikah outfit is being done by Anita Dongre, I think the cocktail outfit is being done by Saffron. My mother-in-law also has a line of clothes which is an old and traditional Bhopali style of clothes, so for my Valimah in Bhopal, I will be wearing one of her creations. I do not remember who is doing my Bombay Reception outfit, but it is a Lehenga.”

Fans may be disappointed to hear that there will be no church bells ringing for the couple. Furthermore, Alvares also told us that she would not be taking up Islam after marriage. “I don’t have to convert to get married. Christians, Jews and Muslims come from the same book so it is not necessary to convert. I can do a Nikah and remain Catholic. But I won’t be having a church wedding for the simple fact that I am not a practicing catholic and I haven’t been to a church in many years. But I do pray every day. I am very spiritual but I do not need to go to a church to be spiritual.”

Any stress? “Not at all,” she exclaims laughing, “Well, I was stressed till the clothes got sorted. Now I am just looking forward to the season of shows, actually. I will be going to Patna, Calcutta, Bhubaneshwar and many other places. I was to go to Bhubaneshwar earlier, but the show got postponed to November. I will be doing shows till December and am already packed.”

We had to know whether she and her beau liked the sea better or the mountains. “I love the mountains. I am a complete mountain person. Ocean, if it is there it is there. The thing is both of us are not too fond of the ocean. I don’t like doing too many beach trips. What is the point? In the hills you see so much more.” When asked about her love for traveling and trekking, the mountain lover replied, “I keep going to Himachal and we plan to go to Leh next year. The hotel shuts for 3 months every year during the rains because all national parks in India are shut at that time. Which means we will have three months for travel. That is going to be the plan, of life (laughs).”
