Ambitious Atif

MUMBAI: The latest movie Prague might have bagged a mixed response, but the music director, Atif Afzal the music director of the film has received accolades for his composition. For Atif it all started from the age of 11 where he started plying instruments like guitar and mouth organs. But it was his engineering degree and a stable job in an IT company that kept him away from his passion.

In a candid chat with Radioandmusic.com, the singer admits, “It took a long time to convince my parents to pursue this career since we know that film industry is uncertain.”

The composer then started meeting people and was even signed for the film ‘Ek Kahani Aise Bhi’ starring Salman Khan and Arjun Rampal but was shelved due to unknown reason and just then Prague happened to him. He met the director of the film in the year 2011 and this was when they started discussing about the music.

“Since the movie was shot in Prague, I took a little time took a little time and as and when as I composed the music I approached the director,” said the composer.

He has worked with musicians from six different countries including US, Uzbekistan, UK, London and Rome. Afzal is extremely positive when it comes to his upcoming projects. “Honestly I do not have too many things on my plate as of now. And a few of them are at a very initial stage as in I am still in talks with the people. The bottom-line is I do not want to rush into anything just because I do not have enough projects. I am sure I shall get something good very soon,” he said.

Afzal also composed music recently for a Marathi movie called Pune 52, which even got nominated for the best background score for DD Sahyadri. Apart from the films, the composer has also bagged accolades for a few short films like Bombay 1992 and Horn Please.
