Heads up! Here come the GiMA nominees!

MUMBAI: Every musician had dreamed once. Some of these came true, and others got smashed. Some musicians never got to see recognition, despite their talent. That was the industry, back in the day, when fame only came to the biggies in Bollywood or Classical Music. Not anymore. Three years of credibility attached to the platform, seems to have helped maintain its consistence in the recognition and felicitation of Indian musicians. That is right. In its fourth edition, Global Indian Music Academy Awards announced their nominees on various platforms during the twilight hours of 2 September.

Since music is dynamic and changes on the contemporary front should not be neglected, younger artistes from the non-film music fraternity require a platform. This year’s categories witness three new additions, Best Duet for film music, Best Electronic Dance Music (EDM) Track and Best Indie Song for non-film music. The audience will miss Best Pop-Rock Song category which has been deleted. Apart from these, there are eleven categories for film music and thirteen for non-film music. Sadly, the judges have decided not to nominate anyone for the Best Carnatic Classical Album-Instrumental category.

Names like Aditya Swami, Anup Jalota, Dr L Subramaniam, Ehsaan Noorani, Ila Arun, Jatin Pandit, Javed Akhtar, Kavita Krishnamurthy, Leslie Lewis, Loy Mendonsa, Midival Punditz, Narendra Kusnur, Prasoon Joshi, Pt. Vishwa Mohan Bhatt, Rajiv Kenkre, Rakesh Om Prakash Mehra, Ramesh Sippy, Resul Pookutty,Roopkumar Rathod, Shaan, Shamir Tandon, Shankar Mahadevan, Shantanu Moitra, Suresh Wadkar, Taufiq Qureshi and Vijay Lazarus adorn the esteemed Jury panel.

There is a 300 member GiMA team apart from the Jury members. The voting process is monitored by KPMG. The ground ceremony for this Wizcraft initiative has been tentatively dated 9 October, but the organisers feel it is too soon to commit. The ceremony will be telecast on the Star Network roughly a month after the ground ceremony.
