MUMBAI: Khazana festival, a concert of ghazal and Sufi music initiated by Pankaj Udhas, Talat Aziz and Anup Jalota will be held on 29-30 July at �The Trident (Oberoi Tower Hotel). In its 10th year, the festival is dedicated to veteran singer KL Saigal- the first singer to record ghazals on long-playing records (LPs).

Speaking on the occassion Pankaj Udhas said, This year the festival completes 10 years and we have dedicated it to legendary singer KL Saigal and has also scheduled a collaborative special with Talat Aziz and Ustad Rashid Khan for the first day and father-son duo Pt. Ajay and Abhijeet Pohankar on second day....

The Khazana festival 2011 will extend this years' artiste line-up from celebrated ghazals gurus to classical singers and some well-know bollywood singers including Talat aziz, Ustad Rashid Khan, Richa Sharma, Pt. Ajay pohankar, Abhijeet Pohankar, Ustad Rashid Khan, Pankaj udhas, Talat aziz, Anup jalota, Bhupindra singh, Jaspinder Narula, Richa Sharma, Kavita Seth and father-son duo Pt. Ajay and Abhijeet Pohankar.

Udhas added, I started this festival in 2002 with the help of my two friends Talat and Jalota and I am glad that it has reached 10 year mark. We have received good response since the past as in India there are no such concert or festival that are solely dedicated to ghazal or sufi. The festival has grown by the year with celebrated singer coming on board....

Khazana festival is a charity event which aims to collect funds for Cancer Patients Aid Association and Parents Association Thalasemic Unit Trust (PATUT). According to organizers report last year the festival succeeded to generate seven figure sums for charity.

The fest also aims to give platform for two new artistes Pooja Gaitonde and Kaamod Arbedwar highlighting their ghazal and sufi talent. Pooja Gaitonde, 17 year old singer is a student of Pandit Raja Upasani, whereas, Kaamod Arbedwar is a music graduate from the Nagpur University.

Udhas stated, I'm always pleased to give young talent a platform to showcase their talent. I'm glad that youngsters are taking interest in ghazal singing and they definitely need to be supported....

Earlier, the fiesta has been dedicated to various legendary vocalist including Begum Akhtar and also a bollywood music director Madan Mohan. Khazana festival seeks to make the poetry of ghazals and the richness of Hindustani classical music, a cohesive experience.
