Radio for the true blue Bangalorean is Bengalurina's Radio City 91.1 FM! Taking
its celebration of everything 'Total Bengaluru' even further, Radio City 91.1FM
- Bangalore's first and favourite FM station, in association with NGO Eco Watch,
conducted a Tree Plantation Drive on Saturday, June 21, 2008 at the All India
Radio Super Power Transmitter Campus. In a bid to bring back greenery back to
the 'City of Gardens', Bengalurina's Radio City 91.1FM partnered the Plant A Million
Trees campaign initiated by Eco Watch and noted environmentalist Mr. Suresh Heblikar. Supporting
this noble cause were a number of honorable dignitaries namely, Shri Rtn. Ashok
Maheshwari (President, Rotary Bangalore), Rtn. H Rajendra Rai (President, Rotary
Bangalore), Mr. Suresh Heblikar (Chairman, Eco Watch), Mr. Sudhakar Rao (Hon.
Chief Secretary, Government of Karnataka), Mr. Krishna B Mariyanka (Chairman,
Public Relations Council of India, Bangalore) and Mr. Jija Hari Singh (DGP, Director
of Civil Defense). Launching
the activity on-air were Mr. Akshay and Suresh Heblikar, the founders of Eco Watch
as they shared their ideas on the initiative and the need for a Greener Bangalore.
Bengalurina Radio City invited listeners to join in this initiative and do their
bit towards this Tree Plantation Drive. Warming up to the cause, the whole of
Bengaluru stepped up to participate in this noble initiative along with the Radio
City RJ Varsha (co-host Whatte Fun Mornings) and RJ Maya (City Spice) in this
environmental drive. Planting saplings along with the notable personalities, the
listeners helped breathe a new life into the city! Sharing
his thoughts on this endeavour, Mr. Rana Barua, Executive Vice President &
National Head - Programming and Marketing, Radio City 91.1FM said, "Being
the city's 'Total Bangalorean' FM station, this initiative reiterates our commitment
to the welfare of Bangalore city. As Bengalurina's Radio City, our constant endeavour
is to involve listeners to embrace the city and champion causes close to its heart.
This being the intent, we partnered Eco Watch in this much needed Plantation Drive.
It was greatly heartening to see Bangaloreans come together in support of this
campaign and thereby, make it a great success!"
