| Mumbai:
Pop sensation Mariah Carey has set a career record by selling 463,000 copies of
her latest album E=MC2, in the first week of its release.
The
album which was released in stores on 15 April, has debuted at number one on the
Billboard 200 albums chart. E=MC2 featuring the hit Touch My Body,
also debuts at number one on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop albums chart and number one
on the Top Digital albums chart, representing the biggest first week debut of
Mariahs career. The song is her 18th number one on the Billboard Hot 100,
helping the singer beat Elvis Presley's previous record of 17 number ones on the
Billboard Hot 100s. The album has been produced by Carey herself along with Antonio
"LA" Reid, Chairman, Island Def Jam Music Group. |

| The
non-stop publicity efforts -- including appearances on NBC's Saturday Night Live,
MTV's The Hills, American Idol, and The Oprah Winfrey Show -- maximized exposure
for the singer. And clearly, the public appearances and the media hoopla didn't
hurt the sales. The massive number of copies sold during week one have helped
Careys 11th studio offering climb its way up to become 2008s best
selling debut so far. Mariah's
was among 19 new releases to impact the coming week's top 200 and one of only
two new albums to enter the chart in the top 10. E=MC2 marks the singers
sixth album to top the charts and has outsold all of the singer's previous efforts'
opening weeks, including her last album The Emancipation of Mimi, released in
2005. |
