Purbayan Chatterjee, who is one of the finest sitar player belonging to Senia Maihar Gharana founded by Baba Alauddin Khan, will be performing at Udayswar@Prithvi by Pancham Nishad on 21 July 2019 (Sunday). He will be joined by tabla player, Satyajit Talwalkar.
Purbayan regularly collaborates with stalwarts like Shankar Mahadevan, Ustad Zakir Hussain and the jazz legend Pat Metheny. His gurus are his father Pandit Parthapratim Chatterjee and Ustad Ali Akbar Khan. He has also received vocal training from Pandit Ajay Chakraborty and training in tabla from Pandit Anindo Chatterjee. Inspired by the tonal quality of Pt. Nikhil Banerjee’s sitar, his music combines the tone and richness of the Nikhil Banerjee style with a contemporary touch of his own urbane sensitivity.
Purbayan has several prestigious awards and international albums to his credit. Today, he is one of the most sought-after musicians in the country and a global ambassador for Indian classical music.
