Yo Yo's 'Raat Jashan Di' is no cause for celebration

Singer: Yo Yo Honey Singh, Jasmine Sandlas, Baani J

Music: Yo Yo Honey Singh

Lyrics: Yo Yo Honey Singh, Jasmine Sandlas

Movie: Zorawar

Music Label: T-Series

MUMBAI: Yo Yo Honey Singh is back in town but his latest offering 'Raat Jashan Di' does not feel like an apt comeback celebratory song.

The typical Honey Singh music and lyrics written by Honey in association with Jasmine Sandlas did not impress us at all. The biggest drawback of this Punjabi number is its limited musical approach. We understand that the song is a part of Honey Singh's upcoming Punjabi film 'Zorawar' but given the fact that Singh's music has a global audience, the song could have been made a bit global too.

The lyrics 'Kolkla chipake jumme raat aayi ae' is nothing new for the Punjabi audience. They have heard this line and the other lines of this song, used in Punjabi songs over the years. The hip-hop and rap in this otherwise cold song too fail to lift spirits.

The makers of the song have not even tried doing anything new with the music video. We see the same old cars, girls and DJ. Even the choreography of this song is below average. There is nothing that one could cherish after the song has wound to its rather noisy end.

We don't understand why Singh felt the need to auto tune his voice to such a great extent. His co-singers Jasmine Sandlas and Baani J aka VJ Baani too don't do a great job here. In fact, Baani's screen presence, a first, too does not change our feelings for this song.

Despite our misgivings, we are sure the this song will do well for the film and Honey Singh fans will lap it up with their usual fervour. Honey in any form is just as sweet, we suppose!
