Richie Hawtin CLOSE and Modeselektor to go live on 16 October

MUMBAI: Two major acts will be performing live on the opening day of the annual Amsterdam Dance Event in the NDSM-Warehouse. DJ, producer and techno master Richie Hawtin brings his CLOSE show to ADE in a double-bill alongside Modeselektor. Both acts will perform at the NDSM-Warehouse in Amsterdam on Wednesday, 16 October 2019. Ticket sales start on Monday, 20 May 2019 at 10 am via Sollidd.

Richie Hawtin has been known for years as an artist who connects music, technology and live performance in a special and progressive way, with CLOSE already receiving awards for innovation. CLOSE brings Hawtin’s fans closer to his unique way of performing and explores the relationship between human creativity and innovative technology. After the debut of his CLOSE show at Coachella in 2017, Hawtin has taken the show to renowned events and festivals like Primavera Sound, Sonar and Vivid LIVE at the Sydney Opera House. With CLOSE, Richie takes the art of DJ-ing to new heights, a world where no two shows are the same.

“I have spent most of my life behind a table half-concealed,” said Hawtin. “The CLOSE show removes the barrier between artist and audience and it feels like I’m in that moment with everybody else. It feels very powerful. If I can get to that point during the show with everybody, that’s why I got into this music. Being locked in this cloud of frequencies that feels like it’s from tomorrow,” he added.

Before Richie Hawtin’s set Modeselektor will take over the stage. The Berlin duo has been shaping the electronic music scene since the early 2000s with their flamboyant DJ sets and genre-melding productions. After two extensive tours with Moderat, they came back to their musical core with a new LIVE as part of their latest Who Else album tour. Wildly diverse, infused with exuberance and inspired by a slap of the absurd, Modeselektor’s inarguable grooves emanate from every conceivable. After sold out premiere solo shows in Europe, Canada, US and acclaimed appearance at Mexico City’s Ceremonia Festival, Modeselektor will bring the new live set at prominent festivals like Primavera Sound, Field Day London, Melt, Montreux Jazz, Pukkelpop, Sónar and back to Amsterdam during this evening, accompanied by their longtime visual collaborators, Pfadfinderei.

"Our new audio visual show is set like a theater piece: we tried to approach the creation of the stage design and performance like in theater play divided in plots with rising actions, climax and resolution. Each element creates the narrative of the live and is part of our story as producers and music lovers. We want to create a multi-layered experience through sounds and share our musical world with the people - this is what our latest album “Who Else” stands for. The live set is loud, compact, rough and warm - it’s a celebration of our influences delivered and arranged with a contemporary touch and a sight to what we feel could be the frequencies of the future. The ultimate goal will always be to have fun with the audience. The visual treatment by Pfadfinderei is an ode to the sense of community the electronic scene has been always about.”.

Support of the evening is SOPHIE. The talented Scottish producer has done co-productions for Madonna and Charli XCX and her star is still rising. With electronic bass lines, vivid melodies and matching vocals, her debut album Oil Of Every Pearl’s Un-Insides was very well received and praised by Pitchfork: “sprawling and beautiful, while still keeping the disorienting, latex-pop feel of her fascinating production technique”.
