Mumbai festival Disrupt to hold second edition from 16-17 November

MUMBAI: Two-day festival to feature international names likes LA beatmaker Free the Robots, British electronic act Zero 7, Belgian tastemaker Lefto, and popular Indian acts such as BLOT, Spryk, Abhi Meer and Kaleekarma among others.

Disrupt made its debut in 2017 as part of a growing breed of city-based festivals that are – in India, as around the world – a natural evolution of clubbing culture. In its second edition, to be held over November 16-17, Disrupt looks to spread its wings, and widen the scope of experience.

With a singular focus on creating a new audio-visual experience using new age technology and production, and pushing forward-thinking music, Disrupt was a distinct new offering for the regular Indian clubgoer. Disrupt 2018 takes that experience and amplifies ten-fold for its second outing, at Famous Studios.

The two-day festival – which features some of the biggest names from electronic music in India, and around the world – Distrupt has been curated and programmed by Mumbai-based music management agency, Mixtape, who have partnered with national chain of bars and restaurants, Social.

Disrupt 2018: Line-up

Playing at Disrupt will be Los Angeles-based beatmaker, Free the Robots, whose globetrotting selections have made him a pioneer of the beat movement, alongside London-based electronic act, Zero 7, playing a DJ set and one of Europe’s most important tastemakers, Lefto.

Free the Robots aka Chris Alfaro is a hip-hop producer and DJ known for his ability to jump in and out of other worlds, creating a unique signature sound that hints at jazz, psych, electronic music and hip-hop, constantly defying genre classification. A passionate crate digger, Free the Robots’ DJ sets are as fresh and exhilarating as his original productions.

European downtempo outfit Zero 7 who shot to prominence with their 2001 debut album titled Simple Things and their 2007 album The Garden was nominated for a Grammy Award for best electronic/dance album. Representing Zero 7 and its’ kaleidoscopic sonic palette at Disrupt will be Sam Hardaker, who will be playing a DJ set.

Other artists on the line-up include one of Europe’s most highly-regarded DJs, Lefto, India’s favourite DJ and producer BLOT, Mumbai-based bass music producer Spryk, and DJs like DJ Uri, Abhi Meer, Kaleekarma and bigfat alongside Amsterdam-based experimental duo Know V.A., Mauritian curator Fourmi Rouz and Goa-based selectors Tsunami Soup Collective.
