MUMBAI: Social across Mumbai continues to give indie music lovers their weekly staple of tastefully curated music from across the folk, sufi, Indian classical diaspora under their Mystic Wednesdays segment that sees the noted names of the circuit performing to an enthusiastic audience.

Coming week will see the Kutle Khan Folk Collective known for their eclectic folk- pop fusion with western classical, Rajasthani folk and Sufi headlined by master percussionist Kutle Khan who has just returned from an international tour in Cairo (Egypt).

Kutle Khan is a vocalist-composer and songwriter, he has formed this ensemble after handpicking select artists from Jaisalmer his hometown in Rajasthan. The ensemble includes Champe Khan a powerful side vocalist, on the harmonium joined by the tireless Magda Khan on Dholak this man is lauded for performing non-stop in an six hour performance, Gafur Khan (Khartaal, Morchang or Jew’s Harp and Bapang) closing it nicely with Priyank Krishna on flute and saxophone.

The folk collective is sought after Kutle Khan’s vocal renditions of Sufi classics that are infused with western classical influences. The performance at Social is exclusive form this month with Kutle Khan performing a track that will be part of his Soul of Series studio album later this year.

Kutle Khan shared, “We are looking forward to sharing a single song from the album during my performance at Social in Mumbai. We are still collaborating on the rest of the structure for this album. We want to take a feel of how the song is liked and Mumbai has been one of our best audiences, we would love to see how the response is.”

The musicians play on handcrafted instruments and are popular for belting out electrifying, dance-happy pop-folk and soul-stirring Sufi, their performances across nightlife venues have almost always seen repeats within a month.
