AGP World lends support to MPower to 'Stomp Out StigmaÆ related to mental health

MUMBAI: STOMP - the British theatrical sensation that has become a cult worldwide is in India for their maiden tour and has floored audiences already. In a first of its kind initiative the international production that is brought to the country by AGP World engaged in a live workshop session with Neerja and Ananya Birla to create awareness around mental illness.

Commenting on workshop with STOMP, MPower founder & chairman Neerja Birla says, “Our aim at MPower is to get rid of stigmas related to mental health and create awareness through interesting initiatives. STOMP has created a niche space for themselves in the world of music and dance globally. We are pleased to do the Worksop with them as we, at MPower, strongly believe that music is an important aspect to help people overcome mental health problems.”

AGP World managing director Ashvin Gidwani states, “It feels wonderful to watch how India is waking up to a West End hit and the STOMP Sensation. We will be bringing back the brand to the country early next year for a multi city tour owing to the phenomenal response we have got with this debut edition.”

Music therapy is an integral vertical at the Mpower Center. MPower co-founder Ananya Birla says, "Music is my magic. It helps channelize my energies and express it in a healthy way. At the end of my workshop with the amazing STOMP crew, I felt positively energized, and went on my day with an added swing in my step."

STOMP, the British theatrical sensation that has become a truly global phenomenon, is an infectious mix of percussion, dance, theatre and comedy with an exhilarating soundtrack inspired by the commotion of everyday life. The show was created in Brighton by Luke Cresswell and Steve McNicholas in 1991, and has since toured all corners of the globe. STOMP has been touring the globe for 25 years, bringing over 20,000 performances to more than 12 million people in 53 countries across six continents. There are up to five STOMP companies performing worldwide at any time.

MPower was launched earlier this year by Neerja Birla and Ananya Birla to work towards giving strength and support to individuals with mental health concerns, especially the young, by creating awareness and also providing comprehensive clinical care. MPower aims to get rid of the stigma and misconceptions associated with mental health conditions through various awareness building initiatives such as Ride to Mpower (an annual Cyclothon) and campaigns such as #EverydayHeroes and #StampOutStigma. Mpower also comprises another vertical- Mpower- The Centre, which provides multidisciplinary mental health services to children, young people, and their families.
