Barry Phillips debuts in India with Lakshay Mohan and Aayush Mohan

MUMBAI: Music gives soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and charm and gaiety to life and to everything- Plato. Delhi witnessed American Cellist Barry Phillips’ debut acts with young Sitar-Sarod duo Lakshay and Aayush Mohan on 23 July.  This was the first leg of the three-city tour titled Golden Symphony'2016. The magic of music created by acclaimed American Cellist Barry Phillips along with Sitar-Sarod duo Lakshay and Aayush Mohan left the large audience spellbound and wanting for more.

The evening was attended by more than 1500 music lovers at Siri Fort Auditorium in New Delhi. The trio served an exceptional creation of fusion music that showcased a blend of east-west collaboration. It was for the first time that the three instruments- Sitar, Sarod and Cello were played together on stage.

Commenting on the success of the event, Lakshay Mohan said, “We feel honoured to perform for such a wonderful audience and are extremely grateful for an encouraging response. For this tour, we have specially composed a new piece which is an organic blend of Indian and Western classical traditions. It is not possible to identify the two genres individually, but at the same time we have improvised within the classical raga discipline.”

“It was a privilege to share the stage with Barry Phillips who is an exceptionally talented artist and a humble being. There is always a sense of pride we feel when we perform Indian classical music. This was an ode to our Guru- Late Pt. Ravi Shankar Ji and we hope to carry the legacy forward and regale the music lovers through our performances,” added Aayush Mohan.

While sharing his experience, the American Cellist Barry Phillips added, “It was a great experience and I am thankful for much appreciation from you all. I hope that the audience would love our creation of Fusion music and we continue to come up with similar concepts to make this tour a memorable one.”

Proteges of Lt. Bharat Ratna Pt. Ravi Shankar, the duo's performance at ‘The Grammy Museum, Los Angeles, USA on the occasion of their Guru’s 95th birth Anniversary specifically stands out. This performance particularly was rated very highly among the classical music enthusiasts.

The Golden Symphony event is part of a three city musical tour; planned next at Bangalore and Mumbai on 29 July 29 and 3 August respectively.
