MUMBAI – Indie musician and writer Nirmika releases her Hindi folk-pop EP, ‘Jhoothe’ onFebruary 10. Her debut EP as a singer-songwriter, ‘Jhoothe’ features three songs that are introspective in nature but playful at the same time. Nirmika, who many would remember from her live act, Nirmika & The Few Good Men, is performing across the country through February to promote the album.

A singer-songwriter and composer, Nirmika,s take on indie-pop is effortless, creating melodies that are memorable and soothing. With a focus on writing in Hindi, Nirmika’s songwriting style is simple but not simplistic.

“My sets with my former live act Nirmika & The Few Good Men had always been bi-lingual, but in the last couple of years I discovered that I was able to articulate some of my thoughts better in Hindi than English. It also helps that my mother tongue is Hindi and both my parents are poets, so the climate at home while growing up was such that language skills were always given importance. While I had been writing Hindi poetry and songs for some time now, it's only now that I have plunged into it completely, playing to my strengths,” she says of her decision to write in Hindi.

An introspective acoustic Hindi ballad, Jhoothe’s lyrics talk about how fragile human relationships are, and how each one of us continues to live a lie in some form or another. The song also features prodigious flute player Naveen Kumar, whose body of work involves multiple projects with music director AR Rahman.

Khilauney is an up-tempo acoustic pop track featuring lush cello, violin and percussion. The lyrical theme of the song revolves around the meanderings of the human imagination. It features Canadian cello player Jake Charkey and multi-instrumentalist Jose Neil Gomes.

Kundi is a restful pop ballad featuring introspective lyrics and minimalist musical arrangements.

Nirmika has also released videos for two of the three tracks, Jhoothe, the title track and Khilauney that was premiered on Pepsi MTV Indies on February 1.

Nirmika Live will perform in Mumbai (10 Feb, blueFROG), Pune (11 Feb, Raasta), Delhi (17 Feb, TBC), Hyderabad (25 Feb, TBC) and Bengaluru (26 Feb, Indigo Live Bar)
