British dubstep sensation Compa joins the line-up for ECHO

MUMBAI: ECHO, the new favourite night for bass heads in the Capital, will host its very first international guest, British dubstep DJ and producer Compa in its September edition later this month.

Conceptualised with the aim of introducing sound culture to Delhi’s audio-heads and party-going population, the club night outlines the evolution of bass right from the early days of dub, dancehall and reggae roots to the glory days of dubstep and grime in the 90s through tunes selected by Delhi-based DJs Moniker and Alter State, along with reggae and dancehall MC Delhi Sultanate. Launched in April earlier this year, the 25 September, 2015 gig will be ECHO’s fourth edition and will feature Compa and Delhi Sultanate on the line-up.

Compa is a young talent with a voracious appetite for bass, his style of production has found approval from some of the biggest names in the UK dubstep community. Compa – inspired by a laptop of a similar-sounding name – came to the attention of dubstep fans with his bootleg remix of Mavado’s ‘Dem A Talk’ and quickly had a succession of hits to his name before being signed on to seminal dubstep label, Deep Medi Musik label.

With a sound that is perpetually nostalgic, yet equally refreshing, and heavy enough to shock the toughest of sound systems, Compa’s music walks the line between ‘foundation sound’ homage and forwardmotion thought, and in his own words, is ‘dark, heavy and atmospheric’.
