MUMBAI: There couldn’t have been a better way to embark on the music season in the New Year. Supported by the Alliance Francaise de Bombay and Alliance Francaise de Pune, the National Centre for the Performing Arts (NCPA), India’s premiere art and culture institution, presents two chamber music concerts by three world-class musicians, Dmitry Sitkovetsky (Violin), Gerard Caussé (Viola) and Henri Demarquette (Cello) – the Sitkovetsky-Caussé-Demarquette Trio on January 9 and 10, 2013 at the NCPA.

MUMBAI: Sir Ivan seems to have India grooving to his peace song, “Hare Krishna”. Now a global success, “Hare Krishna” has made its connection with the Indian audience. AR Rahman to compose for bilingual film 'Kaavia Thalaivan'

MUMBAI: Unveiling his single after a span of 15 years recently, music maestro AR Rahman is all geared up to compose for a bilingual film titled ‘Kaavia Thalaivan’. To be directed by Vasanthabalan, the film will be shot in Tamil and Telugu. The Oscar winning composer will score all the tracks in the film, set to go on floors soon. It will star actor Siddarth in the main lead, who had last teamed up with the composer for a Tamil film ‘Boys’ in 2003 and ‘Aayutha Ezhuthu’ in 2004, and the hit Hindi film ‘Rang de Basanti’ in 2006.

Maton Guitar Competition winner announced by Haworth Music Centre

MUMBAI: In the six weeks leading up to Christmas, Haworth Music Centre ran a Facebook-based competition to win an Australian designed and made Maton Guitar. The winner was presented with his Maton EM325C acoustic guitar, just in time for Christmas, on December 21. Entries to the competition came from all over the world, with the only requirement being to ‘Like’ the Haworth Guitars Facebook page, and in 30 words or less say why they would like to win. The winning entry came from Brian Cameron.

Psy ends 'Gangnam Style' on New Year

MUMBAI:  Psy, who performed his hit song 'Gangnam Style' in Times Square, New York, for the US TV show Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve, claimed that it could be the ending for  Gangnam Style. The South Korean sensation, real name Park Jae-sang, said to MTV news “Being in Times Square on New Year’s Eve is already special - it’s the biggest stage in the universe - plus it’s my birthday, so, with all that, it may be the ending of ‘Gangnam Style’. “I mean, what better way to do it? It’s my biggest and most meaningful birthday.”

FM Radio ad revenues 25 per cent below pre-slowdown rates of 2008

NEW DELHI: The number of advertisers on FM radio has grown from 1,715 in 2005 to 5,581 in the period January to October 2012, while the number of brands has grown from 1,295 to 8,133 during the same period. Furthermore, the number of categories has risen from 285 in 2005 to 379 in January-October 2012 and the volume of hours has grown from 5,273 to 41,202 in the same period.

Apple guilty of copyright infringement in China

MUMBAI: A Chinese court has ordered tech giant Apple Inc to pay 1.03 million yuan ($165,000) to eight Chinese writers and two companies who alleged that unlicensed copies of their work were distributed through Apple's online store. The Beijing No 2 Intermediate People's Court ruled that Apple violated the writers' copyrights by allowing applications containing their work to be distributed through its App Store. Eight Chinese writers who formed the China Written Works Copyright Society (CWWCS) will attain compensation from the company.

YouTube clean up wiping billion of views from music videos

MUMBAI: A big spring clean by YouTube has led to billions of views being wiped out from music videos. Recording companies like Sony and Universal Music Group has lost nearly 2 billion views in a single day. There are allegations that the crackdown by YouTube is on 'fake' video views. In a statement, YouTube officials announced, "This was not a bug or security breach. This was an enforcement of our view-count policy."
