Rajasthani folk musician Sakar Khan passes away

MUMBAI: Noted Rajasthani Kamaicha player and Padma Shri awardee Sakar Khan, an exponent of the melodious bow and string instrument Kamaicha, passed away in Jaisalmer. Sakar Khan, resident of Hamira village of Jaisalmer, was suffering from a respiratory illness for some time.He was buried in his village in the presence of his family and several other folk musicians from across Rajasthan.

AIR, DD to beam President's Address and PM Flag Hoisting on Independence Day

NEW DELHI: All India Radio and Doordarshan will beam the message of President Pranab Mukherjee to the nation on the eve of Independence Day on 14 August. The Flag Hoisting Ceremony and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s message to the nation from the ramparts of Red Fort will also be beamed live on 15 August. While the President’s address will be from 7.00 pm on 14 August in English followed by a Hindi translation, the Independence Day programme will commence from 06.25 am.

Twenty-one All India Radio channels available on DD Direct Plus

NEW DELHI: Twenty-one channels of All India Radio are available through the Doordarshan’s free-to-air DD Direct Plus platform throughout the country A total of 29782 direct-to-home sets for receiving DD Direct Plus, including 20397 in hilly areas of Himachal Pradesh, have been provided by the Government to sixteen states where terrestrial signals are not easily available. These include 2277 in Rajasthan and 1942 in Madhya Pradesh, according to Information and Broadcasting Ministry sources.
