BBC to start new web music service

MUMBAI: By early next year, BBC World Service plans to venture into the Internet medium with a new web music service. The as yet unnamed service is still to receive an approval of broadcast rights from the BBC end and will include content from iPlayer, reports The Guardian.

The Works and Depth rock the I Rock pre-finals

The bands that competed on Thursday night were Aftertaste, The Works, Depth and the Baroda based Manifus. Big FM RJ Dheena sets world record

MUMBAI: Big FM Chennai's RJ Dheena, the morning host of Big Vanakkam has made it to the Guinness Book of world records, after being on air for more than 135 hours beginning 26 August. Dheena broke the existing world record set by Italian RJ Stefano Venneri who hosted non stop on-air show for 135 hours during 2007, says the station.

Radio Dhamaal launches reality show across nine stations

MUMBAI: BAG Films' Radio Dhamaal has launched a reality show, BSNL Dhamaal Ke Sitarey across its nine stations. The show hunts for potential singers of tomorrow and claims to pioneer reality show broadcasting on FM stations on a national scale. Dhamaal Ke Sitaarey invited participation from potential singers in these areas through simple phone calls and road shows. In the first few days the radio station received 800 entries per day, not counting the registrations at the counters, claims the station.

Mumbai traffic cops train guns on blaring music in cars

Updated - Mumbai: The Mumbai Police's traffic division's intention to crack down on blaring music in moving cars is another step towards ensuring road safety in the metropolis. Deputy Commissioner of Police Traffic, (Suburban) S M Sabde, the man behind the initiative, is clear that the police force is not out to harangue car owners, but that the Mumbai simply intends to strictly enforce the section 190 and 190(2) of The Motor Vehicles Act, which prohibits loud music in vehicles plying on the city roads.

Radio City launches 'City ki Awaaz' in Lucknow

MUMBAI: After 'Suron ka Sartaj' in Ahmedabad and Pune, Radio City has taken its singing talent hunt 'City Ki Awaaz' to Lucknow from 25 August. The show auditions are open from 25 – 29 August. Mumbai: Swapnil Bandodkar of 'Radha hi Bavri' fame launched his new album Tichya Dolyatla Gaav under the Sagarika music label. Renowned singer and Bandodkar's Guru Suresh Wadkar was also present at the launch. The album Tichya Dolyatla Gaav is composed by seven different composers which also includes Ashok Patki, one of the most renowned composers of the marathi music. 9XM launches on BSkyB to tap UK market

MUMBAI: Following the launch of Hindi general entertainment channel (GEC) 9X in the UK, INX Media has launched its Hindi music channel 9XM on BSkyB. 9XM is available on EPG slot 828 of the British direct-to-home (DTH) carrier as a free-to-air channel from 17 August. INX Media founder and CEO Indrani Mukerjea said, "We are delighted that 9XM has become the second channel from INX Media to be available in the UK." English news channel NexsX is also planning to launch on the BSkyB platform.
