Yashita Yashpal Sharma: I cannot thank Shankar Ehsaan Loy enough for their support

MUMBAI: She rose to fame with the romantic track 'Chaandaniya' from the movie '2 States' in 2014 and now Yashita Yashpal Sharma has crooned an upbeat song 'Gallan Goodiyaan' for the film 'Dil Dhadakne Do'.  Also sung by Manish Kumar Tipu, Farhan Akhtar, Shankar Mahadevan, Sukhwinder Singh, the music is composed by Shankar Ehsaan Loy and lyrics are penned by Javed Akhtar.

Sharma, who has been working with the music composer trio for a long time now said, "I know Shankar sir, since my stint with 'Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Challenge 2009' as he was my mentor then. Ever since, I have worked with them on some or the other project, big or small. I had sung a few jingles for them and then 'Chandaaniya' happened. I cannot thank them enough for their support." The brief given to her for the track was simple; it was a party number and she had to let her hair down and sing it. "The best part about 'Gallan Goodiyan' is that my mother also sung one line in the song," she added.

According to her, working with Shankar Ehsaan Loy is a boon as they let her improvise on the track. When asked to pick her favourite genre of music she immediately replied, "I love all genres of music as it is something that you cannot really pick, and as a singer I need to be versatile," she explained.

Being born and brought up in a house where music was predominant, Sharma picked the skill from her parents. She revealed that her childhood was not as easy, losing her father at a very young age, which is why her mother took up the responsibility of the family. "I would be alone at home as my brother was in boarding school and my mother would be at work. Despite the difficulties, my mother made sure that I learnt music, and whatever I am today it is because of her," she explained. Her participation in the singing reality show helped her to get in touch with big names of the music world like Aadesh Shrivastava, Shankar Mahadevan and Pritam. It also gave her a "face value and the platform she required."

Sharma revealed that her mother is her biggest critic as she is the one who pushes her to get better, while her brother is her biggest fan. Currently she has also taken up classes to learn various musical instruments. Apart from being a musician, Sharma is an avid reader and loves writings by Khaled Hosseini and is currently reading the book 'And the Mountains Echoed'. When she is not busy, she tries to spend time with her eight pet dogs and her brother.
