Taylor Swift wins big at Billboard Music Awards with eight awards

MUMBAI: Multiple charts-topping pop songstress, Taylor Swift, scored the most awards at the 2015 Billboard Music Awards, which were held on Sunday, 17 May. Swift won eight awards on the night, including Top Artist, Top Female Artist, Top Billboard 200 Artist, Top Hot 100 Artist, Top Digital Songs Artist, Top Streaming Song (Video) for ‘Shake It Off’ and Top Billboard 200 Album (1989). The ‘Blank Space’ singer also won the fan-voted Billboard Chart Achievement Award.

Swift also premiered her highly anticipated ‘Bad Blood’ music video in the opening moments of the Billboard Music Awards, which were held in Las Vegas.

Iggy Azalea, Sam Smith and Pharrell Williams came in second place, winning three trophies each. Australian rapper Azalea won Top Streaming Artist, Top Rap Artist and Top Rap Song for ‘Fancy’, which featured Brit singer Charli XCX. Meanwhile, four-time Grammy Award winner Sam Smith won awards for Top New Artist, Top Male Artist and Top Radio Songs Artist. Pharrell Williams won Top R&B Song for the track ‘Happy’, along with Top R&B Artist and Top R&B Album for ‘G I R L.’

British band One Direction was another multi-award winner on the night, bagging Top Touring Artist and Top Duo or Group, while pop singer, Meghan Trainor’s ‘All About That Bass’ won Top Hot 100 Song and Top Digital Song. Country star Jason Aldean won Top Country Album for ‘Old Boots, New Dirt’ and Top Country Song for ‘Burnin' It Down’.

The award show also had performances by Van Halen, Mariah Carey, Hozier, Pitbull, Ed Sheeran, Britney Spears, Nicki Minaj, Kelly Clarkson, Imagine Dragons, Kanye West and many more.
