Tanishk Vayu on composing 'Banno' for 'Tanu Weds Manu Returns'

MUMBAI: After writing for television and radio for a number of years, music composer duo- Tanishk Vayu, has finally got their break in Bollywood, in the form of the Kangana Ranaut and R Madhavan starrer 'Tanu Weds Manu Returns'. The two have composed the song 'Banno' for the film after being approached by director- Anand Rai to create one song for the film. The lyrics of the song are penned by Vayu Shrivastav and the track is crooned by Brijesh Shandllya and Swati Sharma.

"A while back we made a single 'Opar Opar Se' and Anand sir saw it on YouTube, and he got in touch with us. He asked us to make a song for a wedding scene. This is when I thought of 'Banno' which is a folk song. When you go to the north of India during the wedding season, we have ladies with dholaks singing songs and are praising the bride's sari and appearance," said Shrivastav.

Both of them agreed with the idea of not praising the bride's appearance as it has been done to death and there would be nothing new about the track. This was when they thought about her swagger. "Also we did not wish to make a song on alcohol. Whenever we would record the song, Anand sir would ask us to change something or the other. But when we heard the final product, Vayu and I thought our hard work finally paid off," said Tanishk Bagchi. However, the duo did not know that the song was to be used in the film 'Tanu Weds Manu Returns'.

Shrivastav has always been into music since his childhood. Meanwhile, Bagchi's father worked with famous Bollywood composer RD Burman. Initially, Bagchi was not interested in a music career. However, as he grew up, he realised that music was what he should be pursuing as a full time career. The two bumped into each other a few years ago, while doing a project, and have been together since.

Like most creative minds, the duo often argue over work and which direction it should go in. "If you see our chats, it is more like a relationship. We have differences, but we cannot stay apart and love working together," added Shrivastav.

'Tanu Weds Manu Returns' hits theaters on 22 May, 2015.
