Swanand Kirkire enjoying his acting stint

MUMBAI:  From writing lyrics to juggling the role of a composer, singer and an actor, Swanand Kirkire has done it all. Post playing the role Dattaram Tandel in 'Sonali Cable', Kirkire is once again ready to face the camera for the film 'Crazy Kukkad Family', as he plays the lead role in the upcoming Prakash Jha's flick.

"I love the kind of attention I am getting as an actor, as lyrists play a very miniscule role in the making of any film. We do not get our due credit if a film succeeds at the box office. So, currently I am really enjoying my stint with acting," said Kirkire. He has also been trying his hands at scripting a couple of films in Tamil.

Remaining tight-lipped about the crass lyrics used in songs nowadays, he said, "I am no one to say what is right or wrong because at the end of the day people are listening to it. But when it comes to me, I will definitely not use abuses in my songs. According to me this trend is not here to stay."  The 'Aal Izz well' singer has also penned lyrics for the Aamir Khan and Anushka Sharma starrer, 'PK' the film is directed by Rajkumar Hirani. "The brief given to me was very simple, just stick to the situations and then you can play around with the words. That is actually an advantage when you work with Hirani that you get a lot of creative freedom and his brief is just simple, the script of the movie," he further elaborated.

According to him, in order to become a good lyricist, one needs to have the knowledge of the language he or she intends to write."Apart from good language you also need to have a good and emotional heart. Also the knowledge of rhythm proves to be an added advantage. Most of the times the lyricist write lyrics on the tunes and very rarely does it happen the other way round," he stated. When asked to pick favourite lyricist amongst his contemporaries, he quickly answered, "I like Irshad Kamil and Amitabh Bhattacharya."

The film PK is all set to hit the theaters on 19 December 2014.
