Stephen Colbert, Hugh Jackman to host Global Citizen Festival

MUMBAI: American comedian Stephen Colbert, actor Hugh Jackman and actress Kerry Washington will appear as lead hosts for the Global Citizen Festival, which will commence on 26 September, 2015 on the Great Lawn of New York's Central Park.

The concert will be headlined by Pearl Jam, Beyonce, Ed Sheeran and Coldplay and the event will have free entry for fans.

Salma Hayek Pinault, Olivia Wilde and Jackman's wife, actress Deborra-Lee Furness will co-host the event. They will also encourage people to take part in the Global Citizen moment, which will help eradicate extreme poverty by year 2030. Fans can get their tickets by taking an action to curb poverty on Global Citizen’s website.

Colbert said, “I am honored and thrilled to join Global Citizen in urging world leaders to commit to ending extreme poverty. Finally, all that U.N. traffic will have a purpose!”

“We can't wait to stand with these awesome artists, co-hosts, and thousands of global citizens in Central Park this September as we call on our leaders to end the injustice that is extreme poverty. The Global Citizen movement is proof that when we come together and raise our voices, our leaders pay attention,” said Lee Furness and Jackman.

Washington said, “I am very excited to be a part of the Global Citizen Festival and to join in this movement calling for an end to extreme poverty so that our future generations can live in a more just and equal world.”

This is the fourth year of the Global Citizen Festival and the timing of the concert coincides with the US General Assembly Meeting. The concert will be relayed on MSNBC and stream on iHeartRadio and Tidal.
