Soulmate's Tipriti, Nicholson and others collaborate for first All Starr Jamm of 2015

MUMBAI: Jack N Jones' signature pop-up music event All Starr Jamm kicked off 2015 with its equally signature showcase of collaborative sounds. The night presented a plethora of strong blues and rock music infused with subtle tones of electronic, courtesy of Soulmate's vocalist Tipriti Banger, along with British multi instrumentalist Rodney Branigan on guitar, electronic act Nicholson on keyboards, veteran guitarists Sheldon D'Silva and Alok Kulkarni and music producer Rohan Ramanna on the guitar.

When asked what led to the collaboration, the performers were unanimous in their opinion of the curator of All Starr Jamm, Sameer Malhotra. "Sameer has always been pushing for new music, new ideas and new collaborations. He is the main wheel that runs this project," said Kulkarni, who is known for his collaboration with Bollywood singer Ash King. D'Silva further added, "All Starr Jamm is an amazing place for upcoming music artistes and singer/songwriters who do not do the usual commercial music. It is a great place for singer/songwriters to bring their own original music and collaborate with other musicians. And Sameer is the man who has given the contemporary well known independent musicians their big break."

On the sound of the collaboration, Banger said, "It is a mixture of each and everybody's individual music taste. There is my blues along with the touching electronic R&B music by Nicholson and Rodney and his music. I think we all just blended really well."

"This time's collaboration is very different primarily, because we are catering to a different style of music. It is more blues-y, there is a little bit of jazz, and some electro music as well. The songs that Nicholson has done with Rohan are very unique with its nice spacey electronic that you would like to listen to. It is kind of like Enigma, but with more lyrics. Rodney is an amazing guitarist whose music sound like a combination of rock and country. Tipriti is a phenomenal singer with a powerful voice," added Kulkarni.

On the experience of collaborating with all these artistes, Branigan said, "This experience has been great. It seemed a casual rehearsal. We ended up spending a lot time together, just chatting and getting to know one another. These two six-hour rehearsals were a lot hard work, but the set sounds really exciting."

This marks the first All Starr Jamm for 2015, after being on a hiatus for a couple of months. The primary reason for it was that the brand behind Jack N Jones, Bestseller, recently wrapped up the Sula Fest where Bestseller's other brand Vero Moda was the title sponsor.
