Singer - composer Bombay S Kamal passes away at the age of 82

MUMBAI: Popular Malayalam singer and composer Bombay S Kamal passed away at the age of 82, in Thiruvananthapuram on Monday after remaining hospitalised for four days. As per reports he was suffering from respiratory ailments.

Kamal was born at Abdul Rehman Street in Mumbai, but moved to Kerala after he met renowned music composer Baburaj. He commenced his musical journey in 1979 with the film ‘Evide En Prabhatham'. He was introduced to music by veteran musician Ustad Moin Khan, and also sang the track ‘Chalo Chalo’ from the movie ‘Kurukshetra’. He composed music for approximately 13 Malayalam films.

Apart from being a singer/composer, Kamal conducted programmes and scored music for films, television serials, and professional dramas. He also organised a number of ghazal shows. He is credited for popularising tracks by Kishore Kumar and Mohammed Rafi in Kerala. Kamal maintained a low profile, despite composing music for singing legends like K.J. Yesudas. His music career spans six decades.

His last rites were held in a mosque in Kerala. The singer composer is survived by his wife and three children.
