Shruti Pathak and Nucleya collaborate for 'The Dewarists' season finale

MUMBAI: For the season four finale of 'The Dewarists', electronic dance music producer Nucleya has collaborated with Bollywood playback singer and Guzzler front-woman Shruti Pathak. The duo, have together, created the track 'Heer', which is inspired by the epic romance 'Heer Ranjha' by Wasir Shah.

Considered by many as the Shakespeare of Punjabi literature, Peer Syed Waris Shah's 'Heer Ranjha' inspired these two musicians to recreate the magic of the legendary poem. Shot less than a fortnight ago, the task of contemporising the epic piece of literature while at the same time staying true to the theme of 'Heer Ranjha' took Nucleya and Pathak to the exotic location of Phuket, Thailand.

Speaking to Radioandmusic.com about the collaboration, Pathak said, "It was all very last minute. In the first week of the New Year, I was asked by OML to be part of the season finale of 'The Dewarists.' And, I have known Nucleya since before he became Nucleya. Immediately after being asked to join him for the collaboration, it was an instant yes."

"Nucleya had a basic idea when I met him in Phuket and he knew what he wanted to do. However, we both worked on the track together. We took inspiration from the thoughts and the theme behind Wasir Shah's 'Heer Ranjha'," added Pathak. She also goes on to call 'Heer' "a nice blend of EDM and poetry and music." The track is in Punjabi and Hindi, with lyrics by Siddhartha Sharma aka Dub Sharma, music producer of the track 'Dil Chhi Chha Leda' for the movie 'Gangs of Wasseypur Part 2'.

Pathak added that 'The Dewarists' is an excellent platform to showcase up and coming independent artistes. She also fronts Guzzler, a music project that revisits classic Ghazals with a new sound, experimental approach. After various live performances and radio chat shows, Guzzler will soon start 'Guzzler Café', a YouTube web series that promises more original Guzzler compositions.

The season finale of 'The Dewarists' titled 'Heer' airs on Saturday, 17 January on Pepsi MTV Indies.
