Sandunes working on two part collaborative EP

MUMBAI: Sanaya Ardeshir, popularly known as Sandunes, is currently working on new material, solo and collaborations. Ardeshir is currently working with Kolkata-based percussionist Jivraj Singh on new music, which she revealed could very likely be released as EPs by the end of the year. The new body of work has been with Ardeshir since last year.

Talking about working with Singh and the new material, Ardeshir said, “I really enjoy working with Jivraj; it is a lot of fun. This collaboration is very different from what I have done before. I am in a different space with a different philosophy and using a different approach.” She added that the EP might be released in two parts; with the first one expected later this year and the second by early 2016.

The two previously worked together at the last Bacardi NH7 Weekender, as a part of the Sandunes Ensemble. They are also part of Sahej Bakshi’s Dualist Inquiry band, where Ardeshir plays synth. However, this will mark the duo’s first collaborative EP.

Speaking on the inspiration behind the new record, Ardeshir said that it is the act of focusing on the process of making music that is inspiring her, and not the outcome. “Once you start thinking about the release, you start to focus on how and when you are going to share your work, instead of focusing on the music that you are making,” stated Ardeshir.

Currently, Ardeshir is reworking her live set for her upcoming gigs, which would also include her American tour that commences sometime in August.
