Rihanna surpasses Taylor Swift and Katy Perry to top digital singles artist

MUMBAI: ‘Love The Way You Lie’ singer Rihanna has surpassed Taylor Swift and Katy Perry as the recording industry’s most successful digital singles artist in US history. On Wednesday, the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) announced that the Barbadian singer has achieved over 100 million gold and platinum song certifications.

The feat makes her the first artist to cross RIAA’s 100 million singles mark. In a statement released by RIAA, chairman and CEO, Cary Sherman said, “Gold & Platinum is the industry's premier way to celebrate achievement in the marketplace. We've given awards to artists for nearly 60 years, but it's rare that we have the opportunity to recognize a milestone like the one Rihanna has reached. Congratulations to Rihanna! She has not only surpassed RIAA's one-hundred million mark, but also is the first artist to do so. It's an historic feat and a testament to an extraordinary career."

‘Shake It Off’ singer, Swift, comes second while ‘Firework’ singer Perry, stands third on the list of song certifications.

The 27 year old shared the picture of the press release with the caption, “Thank you God for fulfilling Your Plans in my life...All the glory belongs to you!!!!”

Rihanna leads the lists of artists with most digital single awards. The cumulative digital sales are calculated on the basis ofdownload sales and on-demand streams in the United States.

The ‘We Found Love’ singer has won eight Grammy awards and has seven studio albums to her name. Songs like ‘We Found Love’, ‘Stay’, ‘Only Girl (In the World)’ and ‘What’s My Name’ are some of her top selling songs.
